Building Financial Competencies

The Access to Finance Unit provides technical support to institutional partners who build the financial competencies of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and poor economically active population in Nigeria. The unit contributes and coordinates financial education initiatives in Nigeria in cooperation with financial sector stakeholders, public, private and civil society partners providing financial literacy and capacity building programmes.

The unit is a member of the Financial Literacy Working Group and Financial Inclusion Technical Committee.

Objective

To institutionalize FL trainings in 8 organizations, conduct and monitor training-of-trainers and multiplier trainings.

Initiatives

Developed and revised Financial Literacy (FL) materials for trainers, intermediaries and end-beneficiaries. FL modules cover 14 topics targeted at developing the financial capabilities of the low-economically active population.

Conduct Training-of-trainers for partner organisations.
Supported the inclusion of Financial Education in the Nigeria Schools’ Educational Curriculum for Secondary Schools.
Supported and coordinated the National Peer Educator Programme Initiative for driving financial inclusion in Nigeria in collaboration with the CBN and FMY&SD.
Produced and revised Talk Moni Radio programme for public awareness and mass education on FL topics and microinsurance.
